In the end, though it may be shorter than average, and its story is most certainly nothing that will stick with you for any length of time, Dreamless Castle is a well-made, well-designed adventure game. It has a charming style to it, a nice variety of challenges and minigames not seen nearly as often in the genre, and is very “thick” in content.
So wake up, and explore the world of Awakening: Dreamless Castle. It’s the start of a promising new series!
Awakening: The Dreamless Castle is an immersive and visually impressive game. You will be amazed by the detail that went into the lush artwork of this game, and every area looks like a picture fit to be hanging on a wall. Most game players desire to be transported to another time and place, and this game certainly delivers the type of experience escapists are looking for!
You play as a princess who has been asleep for quite some time. When she awakens, her mission is to escape the castle and fulfill her destiny.
The fact that she is the only person in the kingdom to lack magical abilities is a surprising twist that serves to make the game more interesting, since usually it's the other way around. Apparently there are some perks to not being magically inclined, and players get the opportunity to exploit such loopholes during their adventure.
The castle and the characters have a slightly medieval vibe, though the painted backgrounds have a decidedly Asian feel to them. It would be safe to label the visual style as fairytale, but it's much more complex than that. It's beautiful!
This is a mystery and puzzle type game, with a heavy focus on storytelling. There are various puzzles throughout the game, and all serve some sort of purpose within the bigger picture of the plot. For example, in order to access a pond, you must find a butterfly net. In order to retrieve the butterfly net, a puzzle type objective must be met.
The puzzles are a lot of fun, and become progressively more challenging. Fortunately, if you get stuck there is help if needed, so the game may continue.
The soundtrack is pleasant and unobtrusive, which is excellent for a puzzle game where you are required to think. The cutscenes are on par with what is commonly seen on the major consoles, and give players the feeling that they opened a magical storybook.
Gameplay runs smoothly with no hiccups or glitches and the game is always responsive to clicks, which is essential for a hidden object and puzzle game.
* Puzzle lovers
* Fans of fairytales and fairies
* Those who love hidden object games
* Children (Smaller children will need your help on more advanced levels, but they will adore the story and visuals)
* Anyone looking for an immersive gameplay experience
Overall, this game is extremely mellow and relaxing, yet it's also quite addicting! If you would like a game that is both low key and completely engrossing, this is the game for you. The attractive visuals are a pleasure to behold and the puzzles and hidden objects are fun mysteries to solve.
The biggest draw to this game is its level of style and beauty; there is nothing in this game that's less than gorgeous. Awakening: The Dreamless Castle is definitely a very worthwhile title to own.
