Do you like brain teasers? Do you want a game that seamlessly meshes logic puzzles, hidden object finders and inventory point-and-click gameplay? Do you enjoy a gothic aesthetic and atmosphere? If you want to fall into world like this, Echoes of the Past: The Citadel of Time is the game for you!
The adventure begins with the wicked witch of the past two Echoes of the Past games gloating at you about how she'll trap you "for good" this time. You gets the sense, even if you haven't played previous Echoes of the Past titles, that you've been here before.
If you have played previous games, you'll know that this isn't the first time the witch has tried to trap you in time. She'll do so again, transporting certain parts of the game's setting, a museum/former castle, back to how they used to be many centuries ago.
Ghosts of past ages now wander the halls, and you are trapped in the past. Your goal is to get back to your present time by exploring through five distinct historical eras and finding the objects needed to counter the witch's curse.
A Puzzling Place
Common puzzles in Citadels of Time include:
Standard point-and-click inventory combining
Hidden object searches
Reverse hidden object placement, putting items back where you found them
... and much more!
While it might be helpful to be familiar with previous Echoes games, it is not necessary. All you need is a willingness to think outside the box and use your inventory to problem-solve your way into dozens of uniquely atmospheric rooms.
Puzzles tend to be on the challenging side, and Citadels of Time is chock full of them!
