Protect the World from Extraterrestrial Menace!
UFO Alien Invasion is a free, open-source strategy game in which you try to keep aliens from taking control of the earth. The game begins in 2084 during a time of global peace. The peace is shattered when aliens begin attacking the major cities around the world.
You are the head of PHALANX, a group of humans tasked with repelling the extraterrestrial threat.
Build Bases Underground!
Gameplay revolves around the set-up and operation of underground bases to monitor hostile UFO activity around the world. Your success will rest on how well you manage the production flows of these bases by hiring employees, constructing ships and weaponry, and researching advanced technology.
Buildings in your base include:
Alien Containment Facility
Two Modes: Geoscape and Battlescape
While you manage your bases, time is effectively stopped. When you're ready to see what the aliens have to offer, go to the Geoscape and start time moving.
Sooner or later, a UFO will appear in your base's radar field. It may attack a city, or you may be able to shoot it down in time. Once the UFO has landed, you can send soldiers in to defend the city or examine the crashed vessel. Then the game's focus switches to Battlescape mode.
Battlescape looks like a traditional turn-based strategy game. You control a squad of up to eight soldiers armed with various guns - grenade launchers, shotguns, assault rifles, etc. You can organize their equipment back at base.
These soldiers use movement points to roam the terrain and attack hostile aliens. Once your soldiers have used their movement points, the alien soldiers get to take turns of their own. They may attack civilians, mount an offensive against your soldiers or attempt to retreat from capture.
Fight or Cooperate with Your Friends in Multiplayer Mode!
If you get bored after a few dozen hours playing UFO Alien Invasion in single player mode, you can always skirmish against live human opponents. You can pit your team of alien hunters against your friends' teams, or you can all team up to defeat a superior alien force in Battlescape play.
One Game, Millions of Possible Experiences
The sheer complexity of UFO Alien Invasion is sure to keep players entertained for days on end. The game's events shift depending on what you do. For instance, if you capture an alien alive in your containment facility, extraterrestrials may mount an attack on your base itself. If you fail to keep a certain country safe from attacks, you may not receive funding from that country in the future.
Whatever you choose to do, you need to be prepared to accept the consequences. An incredibly lifelike AI helps to immerse you in this open-ended strategy game.
As the game is still in development, there is no end to potential improvements to UFO Alien Invasion. While its complexity may result in a steep learning curve, you will be hooked once you know how to play.
The game is open source and completely free, so if you're interested in turn-based strategy games, there's no reason not to download it.
